Hello again, from a very
sunny, and warm New Plymouth, Noelene and I spent a big day at the Eltham
Town Hall, where The Taranaki Country Music Club celebrated 40 years of
continuous operations, they had ROGER TIBBS as their special Guest Artist,
and support singers included NANCY MULLER, RON and MARGARET HAYWARD,
REX and NOELENE FRANKLIN, GRAEME FITZSIMON, JOE MARTIN, the expert
steel player was in the band, and there was LES BLOOR, to name some of the
acts, on the programme that covered two days.
Next week, Noelene and I will
be in the studio again, finishing-off songs for our final CD, which will
comprise some old radio shows we did from the 50s and 60s, supplemented
by songs we have recorded at home, or someone else's home, in New Zealand
and Australia over the years, and one of the songs I sang on the Tex
Morton television show COUNTRY TOUCH, IN 1968,
so it will be a
nostalgic look at our music. A unique concept.
NANCY MULLER has a new CD on
the market, and has asked me to review it for her. She was telling me
she and her husband Lloyd recently lost a very close friend, a pony, which
they had owned for around 30 years, and she had to battle this loss, when
she put down the vocal tracks for the album, which opens with "Bluest
Heartache of the Year", and includes other favourites like "Wrong
Road again", "What I've got in mind", "Annie's
Song", "The story of my life,", "Memories are made of
this", "You're my best friend", probably the best track on
the album, (I think so, anyway) she dedicated this to her best friend Lloyd,
which is nice, and the final track of 13, "Good Friends", which is
dedicated to all of Nancy's good friends, of which she would have plenty.
Very nice, relaxed,
easy-listening, Mike McCarthy did the backing for four of the tracks,
giving extra harmonies too, and she did the vocals at Frank Douglas'
studios in Waitara. Nancy supplied the photographs, too, proving there
are more strings to her bow. Thoroughly recommended listening, and you
can order the CD from Nancy, by phoning 06 274 5736, or emailing her at
muller@xtra.co.nz
Until next month, take care,
and keep it Country.
Rex and Noelene
Franklin.
