NEWS AND VIEWS FROM
REX
AND NOELENE FRANKLIN
February 2007
Hi
once again, from the Taranaki area,
Hello
to you all,
After
a short break away, just a bit of a word from me on happenings of recent time.
The highlight for Noelene and me has been our visit to Aranga, North of
Dargaville, we met Phil Godfrey at the local radio station, took part in his
radio show, which he had purposely switched times for, to accommodate us, while
we were there, we received visits from some avid listeners, and sold them some
CDs, and that was nice.
At the close of his programme, we drove out to the farm at Aranga, and
met Dot and their dear family. We took part in the New Years Eve show in the
woolshed, along with CHARLIE GROTH, HEATHER HOLLAND,
and some other very nice people I
particularly enjoyed having some picking time with Charlie, and helping out on
some of Heather's numbers, and of course Noelene and I did a few songs.
A lovely supper was supplied by Dot,
and some of her good friends.
The following day, we had the outdoor show, we did a bracket of some
eight numbers, and we sold a good number of CDs, which is always the icing on
the cake. We were very
pleased to meet MIKE and MARION BUCKLER,
Mike
was a really good singer/guitarist back in the 70s,
and I had sold my Tex Morton
guitar to Mike during 2006. there
were some very nice people there, and some very good artists.
We stayed with Phil and Dot for several days, and fell in love with
Phil's plum wine!! We took in
Opononi, the Kauri forest, and the museum, and returned to New Plymouth, happy
that not only had we met a really nice family, in the Godfreys,
but we spent some quality time with HEATHER, and with CHARLIE.
>>>>>>>>>>>>Back on home turf, we
were all primed up to take part in a special Country Music concert at Pukekura
Park, but alas, it was washed-out, and many of us got wet to the skin, and had
to dash home, and
shower,
and change. The following day, we
got to hear, and meet BOB AND SHEILA EVERHART, from the U.S.A., and that was an
enjoyable experience. Then it was time for Noelene to get organised for a major
operation at Base hospital, but meantime, we had the Marton Festival to attend,
and then, there was a call to head to Feilding a day earlier, because her Dad
was not expected to last the day. He
sadly passed away that night, the funeral was organised for the Saturday, a
large funeral for the well-known 96year-old identity.
In the afternoon, we made an appearance at the Marton festival, where we
sang one song, the weather turned nasty, we left early, for Noelene's health
sake, and drove home on the Sunday , ready for an early appointment at the
hospital the following day.. So
now, Noelene is recuperating at home, she has had loads of support, for which
we
are truly grateful, and we will be putting on hold, any out of town bookings we
had, but I must hand it to Noelene, she has been great.
Her usual chirpy self, even though she is in much pain, for
much of the time.
We
sincerely thank anyone who is reading this, if you've sent a card, or flowers,
or made contact by telephone, a very big thank-you.
Rex
and Noelene Franklin.
