FROM NEW PLYMOUTH IN THE TARANAKI
Hi
once again, from the Taranaki area,
Hello
Readers,
Noelene
and I have been pretty busy with all sorts of things, we were fortunate to
feature on Jim Sutton's Country Music Show on Newstalk ZB a few weeks back, when
he used a few of my instrumentals, and a
couple
of our songs, to help commemorate 50 years since the release of our first record
, a TANZA 78rpm "I wonder where you are tonight"/"Would you
mind?", we recorded those songs on the 1st of September 1956, and the
record was released on the 19th of October , and boy, was that a joyous
occasion. I remember I rang my mother to tell her about it, and she said well,
you've made the record, now you can get on with something else. Yeah Right!
Herbert and Gerry Burkin in Hastings, did a special programme on their
1431AM Radio Kidnappers show, on the 18th of October, they featured us and our
songs for the full hour and a half, and we thank both Jim Sutton, and
Herb
and Gerry for their efforts, -most appreciated.
We are pretty busy with rest homes around the New Plymouth district, and
we will celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary on the 17th of November, with
functions on the 17th, and the 19th. We
have been asked to a few Country Music festivals, and we hope to start these off
in Dargarville over the New Year, followed by New Plymouth on the 13th of
January, Marton on the 19th, 20th and 21st, Otorohanga on the 10th of February,
and the following Sunday in Napier at a special concert.
We welcome Bob and Sheila Everhart to New Zealand in the New Year, and
will look forward to working with them at New Plymouth, Marton, and Otorohanga.
They hail from America, and this will be their first visit to our
shores.
On
a sad note, I learnt of the passing of The Singing Nana, who for many years was
living in the Takaka area, and with whom Noelene and I had some magic times
together over the years, she just loved her Country music.
I
must mention about the good that our editor Annette is doing for us NZ Country
artists, she arranged a very successful visit to Christchurch for Noelene and I,
and she followed that by bringing John Mills, Peter Kirwan, Libby Reveley, and
Ernie Wilson to the Napier Old-time Country Music Concert in August, and that
was an awesome time, we thoroughly enjoyed their company, and their music.
Keep
smiling, and keep it Country. Rex
Franklin..
