NEWS FROM REX FRANKLIN
Noelene and I have been very busy with all sorts of things in the past few weeks, but very little Country Music. However, we do have some bookings coming up, and the guitar is coming out more often, we have much to look forward to.

We attended a World Vision concert in New plymouth, KIDS FOR KIDS, where our two locally-based granddaughters KEELI and CASEY sang in the choir for their schools, and we caught up with SUZANNE PRENTICE,who is still singing just as strong, and true as ever. Her performance of "Grandad" was awesome, and one of the highlights of the show.
CLIFF and CINDY BURGESS, two of our local Country singers, who love to promote our style of music, are back living in the Taranaki, they now reside in Waverley, and are planning THE WAVERLEY OLD-TIME COUNTRY MUSIC ACOUSTIC GROUP, in the Waverley Baptist Church Hall, on the first Saturday of each month, between the hours of 1pm and 4.30pm. The start date is the 7th of July.
Catering for those Country performers who play acoustic instruments, it is a welcome addition to the Country Music scene in our province.
They also plan to conduct a Hoedown in late September, and that is by invitation.

Hastings Country singer BRIAN FAIRGRIEVE has a new CD issued, called DAYS GONE BY, a piece of nostalgia really. Recorded in someone's living room around 1982, and recorded on a reel to reel recorder, it features Brian flanked by two good Country guitarists, BRIAN BURKIN and KEITH HYDE, all using the one microphone.
The result is a very good Country album. Brian reminds me of the great Canadian Country singer ORVILLE PROPHET. He has a rich Country voice, and just a joy to listen to.

Among the singing engagements we have coming up, are some resthomes, the Waverley dates where possible, and THE HASTINGS RSA. That will be on Sunday the 19th of August, and will be preceded by an appearance at the HAWKES BAY COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB, of which we are life members.

This weekend, we drive to Masterton to attend our daughter Lorraine's 50th birthday party, and we'll be stretching our vocal chords and guitar strings, down there.
