Rex and Noelene News Letter

JULY 2008

Hello again, from Rex and Noelene Franklin.

First-off, our sincere congratulations to the Wellington group THE CATTLESTOPS, for having several tracks featured in the movie "Second-hand wedding".Well-done guys.

ROGER TIBBS is at present in Canada, after an invitation from the organisers of The Calgary Stampede, and that also is great news. We were lucky enough to catch him on Television's "Good Morning" show, and Roger and Denise are two very happy people.  Well-deserved, Roger.

Several local singers and promoters are booked for the Old Time Country Music Festival in Iowa in August, and they'll have a ball.
We have been asked over there several times, and if our bank balance had been healthier, and we'd been a bit younger, we might have been there too, but as they say, "Thems the breaks".

Something that is a real plus for us avid Country Music people, is the fact that "PLAINS FM" can now be heard on the Internet, by keying www.plainsfm.org.nz on Tuesdays at 5pm for Lorraine and Malcolm's Country Show, and " Annette's Heart of the Country" every Thursday between 4 and 5.30pm. New Zealand standard Time. These are very good shows, and on both shows, you'll hear some good old (and new) Country Music.  This station broadcasts from Christchurch.
And don't forget, "The Town and Country Show" from Wellington, every Monday from 9pm till 11pm, on www.accessradio.org.nz/town_and_country_radio.html
You'll hear regulars like EDDIE O'STRANGE, MERV WALTERS, RITCHIE ROBERTS, and sometimes you'll hear other guest presenters like PETER BANKS, and these programmes should not be missed, if you are able to tune-in.

Noelene and I have been doing a few shows, like the JOHNNY MORRIS TRIBUTE SHOW in Hawera in May, where followers from all over the North Island attended, and there was the Central Hawkes Bay Country Music Club's 20th Anniversary Celebrations held in Waipawa, which was a real success. Guest Artists from the past 20 years were invited, and I believe eleven of those groups, or individuals, were able to attend.  They included Country singers, GRAEME AND JANICE FITZSIMONS from New Plymouth, MURRAY McPHERSON from Hawera, BRIAN FAIRGRIEVES from HAWKES BAY, DOT EDWARDSON AND SHIRLEY DAVIES, a Mother and Daughter duo, (we recorded a song called "A Child in Me", on one of our albums, and that was written by Dot, then known as Dot Davies) NOELENE and myself, ballad singers DENNIS AUGUST , and BURT HURA, and an alternative-styled artist, BOB PHILLIPS.     LIN AND BRIAN BURKIN were booked to appear, but had to cancel.

We are flying to Nelson for our son Terry's birthday on the 11th of July, and our twin granddaughters' 21st birthday on the 12th, (Gemma and Hannah) and we will be doing guest spots at the club days of The Waimea Country Music Club, and the Stoke Old-Time Country Music Club, on Sunday the 13th.  Really looking forward to the weekend.

Then the following weekend, we have been asked to guest at the Kapimana Country Music Club's 30th Anniversary Celebrations, that is the 19th and 20th of July, where we look forward to catching-up with the likes of RITCHIE and BRIONY ROBERTS, ANN BUSH, MERV. and GAIL WALTERS, and a host of other very nice people, like GAIL and BARRY ANSETT, etc.

So until next time, keep it Country, and try to stay healthy.
