Franklin Country Music Club

We meet every 2nd Thursday evening at 7.30 pm in the concert
chamber at the Pukekohe Town Hall.

As for the club, to the best of my knowledge the club was started some
thirty five years ago by Rusty Greaves and at least Norma Beston who
still attends regularly and is still a committee member. We have a
membership of around 70 members and most club nights have around 50
attendees. We meet every 2nd Thursday evening at 7.30 pm in the concert
chamber at the Pukekohe Town Hall.
The club is very fortunate to have Lex Greaves and his Band Southern
Country provide music for us. Lex is one of Rusty's sons and a nice guy
as well as being a pretty darn good musician. e.g Bass, Lead, Rythm
guitar and drums that I know of, probably very efficient on other
instruments as well as singing. Other band members are Ivan Hoete Lead
Guitar and vocals, Bob Cleal Drums, Graham Scott Rythim Guitar, vocals
and President, Ari Heta Bass Guitar and vocals. Graham is recovering
from a mystery illness that had unable to to do anything physical at
all, but after a lot of physio and determination he is slowly but
surely getting back to full fitness again. In fact he bought a Ukulele
to try and get his strumming hand operating again. Some notable members
are Dennis Marsh, Rob Innes and Gray Bartlett. (Not that we see much of
Gray) Must include our younger set Lex and Donna's three daughters
Lianna 7 Sarah 5 and Ashleigh 4 as well as the Jamieson girls Laura 16
Danielle 14 and Sarah about 12, all are regular performers at club
meetings and are heartily appreciated. Lianna and Laura especially are
rising stars in my humble opinion.

At present we endeavour to have a spotlight artist perform for us,
these folk come from far and wide as well as our own club members.
Generally they a re pretty darn good.
If you ever get the urge to visit us up here I'm sure we we would be
delighted to have you do a spotlight for us.

Country music is quite strong in our neck of the woods with clubs in
abundance e.g Tuakau, Papakura, Manurewa, as well as those down in
North Waikato and Auckland City and suburbs. Our relationship with some
clubs is real good with visits to and from occurring regularly. Really
nice to go down country, they are generally a good bunch and it is
usually a most enjoyable occasion when we meet.

Cheers
Chris
