Bruce Greaves born in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand, eldest son
of the legend
Rusty Greaves, a man who broke the way for other country singers from all around
New Zealand to perform in Nashville TN U.S.A. Himself performing 13 times on the
Grand Ole Opry. Tex Ritter had invited Rusty Greaves to sing on the Grand Ole
Opry and joined the C.M.A Board. Bruce like his father, left home when he was 10
years old and lived with his Uncle and Aunty on a farm in the far north of New
Zealand in a town called Kaitaia. Bruce learnt to be a farmer, milking cows,
breaking in land, feeding and caring for the animals. While doing this he also
went to school to further his education, it was a hard life but he enjoyed it.
Bruce became an expert with horses, a top rodeo rider and breaker. He also bread
and trained thoroughbred horses. At the age of 17 he came back to Auckland and
became an apprentice cabinetmaker. Then in becoming a builder with his father
learnt the art of building houses. Now having his own successful building
company for the last 30 years.
Rusty Greaves started the first Country Music club in New Zealand in the 1950's
then in the early 1970's they started to spread round New Zealand. Bruce started
going to the club every week where he learnt to get up on stage and sing in
front of an audience. He learnt to play a guitar by watching others, going home
and practicing the chords he saw. At the age of 19 he formed his own band called
the 'Trend Setters'. The band was very successful booked out every week for 15
years playing in the R.S.A's sport, socials, weddings etc. Bruce became a very
good yodeller and went on to win The New Zealand Golden Guitar awards. Then he
was off to Australia where he sang in most of the league clubs, where he most
definitely became an all round entertainer.
Bruce was married at the age of 21 had 2 children but the marriage did not work
out and was divorced. He then met his loving wife Anne; they have now been
married for 28 years and have 4 children. Bruce’s' eldest son Jason is now
recording in Australia another very good singer, of whom Bruce is very proud of.
Bruce is also the eldest son of 14 children, who all sing, five of who are also
professional entertainers. His brother Kevin Greaves is a singer in Nashville TN
U.S.A for the last 11 years got to #2 on the charts and #1 in Europe.
Bruce made his first c.d called COUNTRY AT HEART 3 years ago a very good
traditional country music c.d. This year Bruce decided to go to the U.S.A where
he stayed with his brother Kevin in California. While there he sang at clubs
with Kevin. Then they both went to Nashville.
There Bruce met some of the best talent in the world and sang at some of the
clubs where he was a big success. While there he was able with the help of his
brother gathered up some of these talented musician's and with some of the best
song writers in U.S.A headed off into Studio D. Where he spent the next week,
fifteen hours each day recording his next c.d called 'THE INVISIBLE MAN.' This
c.d was given a high applause for being a well-produced c.d, where every song is
a good song eight of these 12 songs being new releases. This c.d is a must to
have in your country selection. Bruce goes on tour again in January to the South
